Treutlen Board of Education Discuss Finances and Fundraising for Upcoming School Year

The Treutlen County Board of Education discussed finances and future fundraising in the 2026 school year during their monthly meeting on Monday, June 9, at the Treutlen County Board of Education office in Soperton.

The Treutlen County Board of Education discussed finances and future fundraising in the 2026 school year during their monthly meeting on Monday, June 9, at the Treutlen County Board of Education office in Soperton.

All Board members attended the meeting, though Board Member Jeremy Lanford attended via telephone.

Following an invocation and pledge of allegiance, Board Member Toni Banes offered a motion to accept the meeting’s agenda, which passed unanimously. Next, the Board heard the monthly financial report, delivered by Treutlen County School Superintendent Dr. Susan Stone.

According to Dr. Stone, revenues totalled $11,284,250.68, and expenditures totalled $10,390,008.18 as of March 2025; encumbrances from the general fund and open paid orders totalled $265,525.06 and the the general fund equity totalled $6,514,330.53. In April 2025, general fund revenues totalled $12,345,940.79, and expenditures totalled $11,613,487.50; encumbrances and open paid orders totalled $280,884.75 and the general fund equity totalled $6,352,541.32.

Regarding school nutrition as of March 2025, revenues totalled $898,793.66, and expenditures totalled $862,916.34; encumbrances and open paid totalled $14,076.69 and the general fund equity totalled $134,317.29. As of April 2025, revenues totalled $1,010,211.22, and expenditures totalled $968,077.78; encumbrances and open paid orders totalled $2,196.41 and the general fund equity totalled $548,296.76.

For individual school balances and activity accounts as of Monday, March 31, 2025, the Treutlen County High School balance totalled $87,315.62; Treutlen County High School Athletics totalled $57,199.46; Treutlen County Middle School totalled $65,617.78 and Treutlen County Elementary School totalled $89,368.18. As of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Treutlen County High School totalled $91,957.24; Treutlen County High School Athletics $51,115.19; Treutlen County Middle School totalled $61,532.66 and Treutlen County Elementary School totalled $85,592.85.

Dr. Stone also reported a 9.97% increase in ELOST distribution, from $68,339.13 in fiscal year 2024 to $75,151.96 in fiscal year 2025.

Hayli Castro will be fundraising for Treutlen County Middle School soccer via birthday grams in the middle and elementary schools through the 2026 school year, as well as a 50/50 cash raffle in January 2026. 

According to Dr. Stone, there will be no overnight field trips for students in the 2026 school year and only one out of state field trip on Thursday, April 30, 2026, when the Treutlen County High School senior class will attend Grad Bash at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Board Member Lanford offered a motion to approve, which passed unanimously.

Next, the Board heard the Superintendent’s report, delivered by Dr. Stone. First, Dr. Stone presented the Board with an altered salary schedule B, as well as theTreutlen County Board of Education salary schedule from the state and a local supplement. 

Board Member Toni Banes offered a motion to approve the salary schedules and the local supplement, which passed unanimously.

Next, Dr. Stone reported the tentative budget for fiscal year 2026. According to the budget, the Board expects a total general fund revenue of $15,181,288 and expenditures of $15,469,400; as well as a total special fund revenue of $3,574,807 and expenditures of $4,101,788.

Board Member Demetra Noble offered a motion to approve the budget, which passed unanimously.

Dr. Stone also reported the signature resolutions for Treutlen County High School’s new administrative team, including a new principal, assistant principal of instruction and assistant principal of operation, as well as a new AP for Treutlen County Elementary School. Board Member Noble offered a motion to approve the resolutions, which passed unanimously.

Dr. Stone then reported the postseason athletic stipend for fiscal year 2025, totalling $4,000. Board Member Noble offered a motion to approve, which passed unanimously.

Next, the Board considered the School Nutrition Program procurement procedures for the 2026 school year. According to Dr. Stone, the procedures were the same as the 2025 school year’s with no changes.

Board Member Banes offered a motion to approve the procedures, which passed unanimously.

Finally, the Board discussed raising the end of course test requirements for Treutlen County High School Students from 10% to 20%. The requirements were originally set at 20%, but the state pushed for a reduction due to Hurricane Helene, according to Dr. Stone.

Board Member Noble offered a motion to approve the raised requirements, which passed unanimously. The Board then entered executive session to discuss matters related to personnel before adjourning the meeting.
