Man killed by deputy during domestic dispute

A man is dead after being shot by a Laurens County Sheriff’s deputy while responding to a domestic dispute incident near Cedar Grove.
The man, identified as Curtis “CJ” Glen Purvis Jr., 31, of McRae-Helena, stabbed an acquaintance in the home causing the deputy to respond with deadly force, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Deputies were dispatched to the residence on Sudie Pearl Jones Road around 10:20 p.m. Aug. 15 to a domestic dispute in progress. When officials arrived, Purvis had fled the scene. He returned while the deputy was investigating, crashed his car into a parked vehicle, striking the victim’s father, in the yard, a media release says. Before the crash, the deputy shot at and hit the vehicle. Purvis then forced his way back into the home where he pulled the knife and stabbed the victim.
Purvis exited the home still holding the knife where he was shot by the deputy. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The victim and the father were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The case remains under investigation by the GBI , while the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
