BASEBALL: Trinity run-rules David Emanuel in rematch
After coming from behind to beat the Eagles the week before, the Crusaders left little to chance on Friday as they jumped on them early in a run-rule victory.
When Trinity and David Emanuel clashed in Stillmore two weeks ago, the Crusaders needed to mount a seventh inning comeback to get the win.
They left little to chance on Friday as the offense jumped on the Eagles early and ended the game via the run rule in a 10-0 win.
After DEA went quietly to open the game, the Crusaders went right to work in their first trip through the order.
Jakob Sahli and Asher Evans both walked to open the frame. Brayden Underwood, who had a huge game at the plate, then drove home Sahli with a single. Carter Lee came up next with another RBI single to make the score 2-0.
The big blow of the inning came with two outs as Andrew Helton drove home two more runs with a hit to make the score 4-0.
Asher Evans would reach on a two-out error in the second, and Underwood would follow with a double to push the lead to 5-0.
In the third, Tayt Evans reached on a two-base error to lead off the inning. Kolbi Grooms, who got the win on the hill, helped his own cause with an RBI single to make it 6-0.
The lead would grow even bigger in the fourth. Evans singled and stole second. Underwood would drive him home yet again with his third hit of the day to make it 7-0.
Lee followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. An error would make the score 8-0 and a fielders choice would bring home another run to push the Crusader lead to 9-0.
Trinity would end the game in the fifth.
With two outs Sahli was hit by a pitch. Evans came up next with another single to bring up Underwood again with a chance to do damage. he junior backstop delivered his second double of the day to drive home Sahli and end the game at 10-0.
Trinity (3-1) will host Gatewood in its next game Tuesday at 6 p.m.
