BASKETBALL: Trinity tops Tattnall Square to continue win streaks

The Crusaders kept rolling in a pair of impressive wins over the AAAA Trojans Friday night at home.

The Trinity basketball teams returned to hardwood action on Friday and earned a sweep over AAAA Tattnall Square.  The girls rolled to a 65-30 win while the boys broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to win 66-55.

The girls game was never in much doubt as Trinity dominated from the opening tip, leading 14-7 after one quarter and exploding for 25 second-quarter points to build a 39–16 halftime advantage.

In the third quarter, the lead grew even more as the Lady Crusaders put up 20 more while holding Tattnall to just seven to lead 59-23. The fourth quarter was shortened to six minutes due to the mercy rule.

Maddy George led Trinity with 21 and Addie Kendrick added a career-best 18. In one of their best shooting performances of the season, the Lady Crusaders hit eight 3-pointers and went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Mary Banks Stewart led Tattnall with 12.

The Lady Crusaders improve to 9-2 for the season.

The boys game was nip-and-tuck for much of the contest.

Trinity led 13-12 after one period and 27-26 at intermission.

Tattnall played a better third quarter, scoring 17 while the Crusaders managed just 12.  The Trojans held a slight lead, 43-39 going to the final stanza.

Trinity, led by the backcourt of Jagger George and Will Foskey, took control in the fourth. The Crusaders erupted for 27, with the aforementioned guards combining for 18 in the period. 

The defense held the Trojans to just a dozen in the fourth as the Crusaders pulled away for the 66-55 victory.

George had 27 and Foskey had 20 to lead the way, with Foskey making five of the Crusaders’ nine 3s in the contest.

Jamarion Ricks just missed another double double with nine points and nine rebounds, despite battling foul trouble all night.

Trinity made 17 of 20 from the foul line, including an impressive 11 of 12 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Jayce Veal led Tattnall with 19 and Champ Castlin added 12.

Trinity is now 6-4 on the season, already doubling last years win total.

Next, the Crusaders will play Westfield and George Walton in John Milledge Academy’s Prestridge Christmas Classic this coming Friday and Saturday.
