Law enforcement investigating women’s death after being found in a house near Laurens/Dodge County line

The body of a 55-year-old woman will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab to determine a cause of death after she was found in a home near the Laurens/Dodge County line Monday evening.

Melanie Douglas was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m. in a house at 3690 Jay Bird Springs Road on Monday, Aug. 31, said Laurens County Coroner Richard Stanley.

According to Laurens County sheriff’s Lt. Jeremy Reese, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office notified them about the situation.

“It was near the Dodge County/Laurens County line so they initially responded,” Reese said. “They saw she was dead and contacted us, and we responded.”

LCSO officials got the call at 6:44 p.m. Monday and notified its investigators. Reese said Douglas was found inside the house, adding that she did not live in the home where she was found.

“It is an ongoing and active investigation,” Reese said. “Of course, we’ll take any loss of life serious.”
