Cary Convenience reopens, now with 24/7 gas pumps

Cary Convenience Store in Cochran has reopened after being closed for remodeling. New additions to the store include updated gas pumps, lotto machines, food refrigeration and a new security system, complete with state of the art cameras. 

Perhaps the most convenient remodel for patrons is the addition of 24-hour gas pumps. 

Previously, like many other gas stations in the tri-county area, gas pumps were cut off after business hours ended, leaving motorists who pass through the area late at night in a bind. 

Gas stations closest to Cary Convenience that also offer the 24-hour service are each 11 miles away, or about a 15 minute drive. The road in between is rural and dark late at night, posing a danger for drivers running low on fuel. 

The Exxon on GA 26 and the Circle K on N 2nd Street are both located in downtown Cochran, near the southern border of Bleckley County towards Pulaski County. Cary Convenience, on the other hand, is on the other side of the county in North Bleckley, closer to Twiggs County.

Despite not being open 24 hours a day, gas pumps will be available for patrons throughout all hours of the night.

The store itself will be open every day from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., a change from the previous hours of operation. Cary Convenience will no longer be open until 10:30 on weekends.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly remodeled shop was held on Aug. 19 with the Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce.

Owner Yousaf Mumiaz said his favorite part of the renovations are the new gas pumps. According to him, customers have shared concerns with him in the past, saying it was harder for them to tell how much gas they were pumping compared to other stations in Cochran with modern pumps. 

Mumiaz said he hopes the installation of the new, modern pumps will help customers understand what’s going in their car, and alleviate any anxieties they may have about being cheated on gas prices.
