On a cool Saturday morning, a big group of members from the community gathered on Lakeside Drive in East Dublin to start work on House No. 43 for the Dublin-Laurens County Habitat for Humanity.

The number of people impressed Habitat Executive Director Tracy Kinney who wanted everyone to gather on the foundation of the new house for a group picture.

It was good to see people volunteer their time on a weekend morning to help a new family build their home, a place they will hopefully be able to move into before the end of this year – maybe before or around Christmas.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, it was time to get to work on the new house for Felicia Montford. The hammers swung in the air, driving nails into the wood as the sun slowly rose over the trees. The work continued each weekend through September and will until the work is completed.

The building of a Habitat house is a reminder that people will come out to help others – sometimes strangers – into a home of their own. Congratulations to the new home owner and our local Habitat.

With No. 43 in the works, there is plenty of time for people to think about ways they can help with No. 44.
