A truck’s dash-cam video showed it was speeding Tuesday morning before striking a car on Hillcrest Parkway and leaving a man trapped and injured.

Dublin police Maj. Eric Roland said the accident occurred at 10:47 a.m. Tuesday near the Walgreen’s on Hillcrest Parkway. The driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado, who was determined to be the at-fault vehicle, hit a silver Chevrolet Malibu.

“The person who was driving the Malibu was pulling out of the Walgreen’s to exit the establishment onto Hillcrest,” Roland said. “The driver of the Silverado was coming down Hillcrest in excessive speeds and ended up striking the vehicle as it entered the roadway.

“Since he was traveling in excess of the speed limit, he shorted the person’s time they would have normally have had to make it out onto the roadway. It was all captured on the camera in the truck.”

Officials were able to see how fast the vehicle was traveling, which led the driver of the Silverado to be charged with driving too fast for conditions and reckless driving. That driver was checked for injuries, but none were reported.

“The person who was struck in the other vehicle was airlifted to Macon by Air Evac,” Roland said. “The driver was trapped in the vehicle and extricated by members of the Dublin Fire Department.”

The driver’s condition was not known by press time.

With the beginning of the Fourth of July holiday, Rowland encouraged people to slow down.

“It’s dangerous on the roads, and we’d like for drivers to slow down,” Rowland said.

“Hillcrest Parkway is 35 mph. If speed was not a factor, this wreck could have been avoided. We just ask all drivers to please remember to drive carefully and obey the speed limits.”
