Dexter Christmas parade pushed back a week

The town of Dexter has announced plans to push back its Christmas parade because of the weather and the fact that the West Laurens High School football team will be playing on the road in the Final Four this Friday.
Dexter Mayor Emmett “Rod” Waites said the town took into account that the WLHS’ game in Jefferson meant that members of the Raider Brigade band would not return home until early Saturday morning.
“They might not be getting back home until 2 or 3, and that would have been rough for the band,” Waites said. “It’s not a parade without the band there. They will be more likely to be there the following Saturday, so we moved it back. Plus the weather’s forecast is supposed to be bad.”
Waites planned to call businesses, individuals, churches and groups who have already committed to being in the parade Monday. Line-up for the Dexter parade will begin at 8 a.m. at Possum Hollow Ballpark area.
The road will be closed around 10 a.m. The grand marshal for this year’s parade will be Don Bryant, former Laurens County EMA director and fire chief.
The last day to register to be in the parade is Thursday. Anyone with questions can call Dexter City Hall at (478) 875-3838.
