Dublin City, West Laurens Middle cancel school for Thursday due to water advisory

Leak has been repaired, but city remains under an advisory to boil water.

Dublin City Schools and West Laurens Middle School have canceled classes for a second day after a water main break placed the city under a boil water advisory.

Although the water main break had been repaired Wednesday, the boil water advisory remained in effect until testing confirms there is no longer a public health threat.

“This decision is being made out of an abundance of caution as we work to ensure that all necessary health and safety requirements are met before students and staff return to campus,” Laurens County Superintendent O.J. Hall said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Dublin City said it was calling off class “to protect the safety, health and well-being of our students and staff.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as soon as they become available,” the district said. “We are very grateful for the diligence of our city maintenance staff and officials, who are working tirelessly to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of our community.”

Schools, businesses and some government offices in Dublin shut down Wednesday after a 16-inch water main broke on Joiner Street overnight, leading to the boil water advisory.
