Dublin students improve on math scores
Third-graders put up highest marks on Georgia Milestone test.
The Dublin City Schools showed improvement in all grades scored for the recently released Georgia Milestones math tests.
Students take Georgia Milestones end-of-grade math tests in grades 3-8. Student learning is assessed at three levels: Beginning Learners, Developing Learners, Proficient Learners and Distinguished Learners.
Third-graders put up the best score for Dublin students. Almost half – 48 percent – of city third-graders scored at the proficient learner level or above, compared to 41 percent last year.
Among the 10 schools in the Heart of Georgia RESA district, which includes Dublin and Laurens County, Treutlen third-graders put up the best math scores, with 74 percent at proficient or better. Bleckley and Laurens counties were next, both at 61 percent.
The biggest jump for Dublin City was made by eighth-graders, as 30 percent tested at proficient or above compared to just 15 percent a year ago. The lowest scores were in sixth grade, where 11 percent of students tested at proficient or better, but that was an improvement from just 7 percent in 2023.
Other results for the city:
• Fourth grade – 44 percent at proficient learner or above, compared to 35 percent last year
• Fifth grade – 18 percent proficient or better, compared to 14 percent a year ago
• Seventh grade – 21 percent proficient of above, up from 16 percent.
