GOLF: West Laurens boys win area 2-AAA title, girls also qualify for state

The Raider boys took first, and their girls third overall, at Tuesday’s 2-AAA tournament to both advance to state next month.

The West Laurens High School boys golf team overcame a difficult Georgia Southern University Golf Course and some tough competion to win the area 2-AAA championship Tuesday in Statesboro.

The team shot 309 to place first, with Southeast Bulloch finishing as the runner-up.

Braceton Beasley and Brody Graham tied for second as individuals and led the team, shooting a pair of 74s.  

Wade Martin finished tied for sixth overall, with a 77.  Will Tribble had an 84 to round out the Raider scoring.

Needing to finish among the top three teams to qualify for state, the Raider girls came in third. 

Bailey Jean Logan (106) and Morgan Barfield (110) had scoring rounds for the ladies.

Both teams will now advance to the GHSA AAA state tournament, the girls for a fifth-straight season and the boys for the first time since 2022.  The 36-hole event will be held in LaGrange at The Highlands Country Club on May 19-20.
