Stuart Hamblen (1908 – 1989) ‘Until Then’

Stuart Hamblen is now with his Lord, but his beautiful songs of faith live on and continue to bring blessings to those who hear them, play them and sing them.

Stuart Hamblen (1908-1989) was born in Texas and later moved to New Jersey where he recorded several cowboy/yodel songs. He them moved to Los Angeles, California, where he became famous as a radio singing cowboy. In 1949, he made his “peace with God” during the Billy Graham Greater Los Angeles Crusade and then began to share his Christian testimony in life and song. As a devout Christian, he wrote such beloved Christian songs as “This Ole House,” “Until Then,” and “It Is No Secret.” Stuart Hamblen is now with his Lord, but his beautiful songs of faith live on and continue to bring blessings to those who hear them, play them and sing them. “Until Then” is a favorite of mine, and I now share the words with you:

My heart can sing when I pause to remember

A heartache here is but a stepping stone

Along a trail that’s winding always upward,

This troubled world is not my final home.

The things of earth will dim and lose their value

If we recall they’re

borrowed for a while;

And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,

Remembered there will only bring a smile.

This weary world with all its toil and struggle

May take its toll of misery and strife;

The soul of man is like a waiting falcon;

When it’s release, its

destine for the skies.

Refrain:

But until then my heart will go on singing,

Until then with joy I’ll carry on –

Until the day my eyes behold the city,

Until the day God calls me home.

Peace!
