Dillion encouraged the children to read and engage with the books in order to learn life lessons, such as Pete the Cat learning to enter the water in “Pete the Cat: Pete at the Beach.”

“When you read, try to ask yourself questions,” said Dillion during the event. “It’s important.”

After the reading event, Treutlen County School Librarian Tina White presented awards to the attending children for completing summer reading logs. According to White, 78 children signed up for the logs while 25 children completed them.

Attending children who turned in a reading log were each given a certificate, a goodie bag and two extra gifts of their choice. Extra gifts were given to the top readers of each age group, including pre-K and younger, kindergarten through second grade and third grade through eighth grade.
