Woman dies after being struck by car

A 66-year-old Dublin woman died after she was hit by a car while crossing the road Friday night in front of the Dublin Motel, near the intersection of North Jefferson Street and Hillcrest Parkway.

A 66-year-old Dublin woman died after she was hit by a car while crossing the road Friday night in front of the Dublin Motel, near the intersection of North Jefferson Street and Hillcrest Parkway.

Deborah McClendon was pronounced dead in the Fairview Park Hospital Emergency Room at 11:37 p.m., said Laurens County Deputy Coroner Nathan Stanley.

According to a Georgia State Patrol report, McClendon stepped into the road in front of a red 1999 GMC Sierra. A witness told a trooper that the GMC had changed from the right to left lane and was proceeding to pass them.

The GMC hit the pedestrian with the left corner of its front bumper and left headlamp assembly. Area of impact was in the left northbound lane of the road. After impact, the GMC continued forward approximately 80 feet before coming to rest in the left northbound lane, facing north.

Stanley said McClendon died from multiple blunt force injuries due to a motor vehicle accident.
