SOFTBALL: Confident finish to week for Trinity vs. Vidalia Heritage, Crisp

The Trinity Lady Crusaders struggled offensively in a loss to Brentwood to end last week, but rebounded with a pair of big offensive performances against Vidalia Heritage and Crisp Academy, to unofficially move their season record to 3-4.
In the books, only Friday’s 9-0 loss and Tuesday’s 13-1 victory will officially go down for the time being, as Thursday’s game at Crisp didn’t reach official status before play was suspended, though Trinity was ahead 11-3 at the point of interruption.
Plans to resume or make up the game were still being worked out at press time.
Trinity returns to action on Tuesday against Robert Toombs, looking to improve a 1-0 district record.
In the Brentwood game, the Lady Crusaders got a pair of two-out singles in the top of the first but couldn’t score.
Brentwood got a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-0, and never looked back.
The Lady Eagles added four more in the third and two more in the fourth to pull away.
Brinley Vinson, Chloe Rozier, Abby Gillis and M.G. Alligood had one hit each for Trinity.
Vinson led off with a single in the bottom of the first against Vidalia Heritage and scored after two hit batters and a walk. A wild pitch would make it 2-0 after one.
After VHA cut the lead to 2-1, the Lady Crusaders began to pull away.
Vinson would single for the second time in two innings to make it 3-1. Alligood came up a few batters later with a two-run double to make it 5-1. A Liza Gay single would make it 6-1 and two more runs would come home on an error to make it 8-1.
Trinity would add five more in the third on RBI singles from Alligood, Chloe Rozier and Reese Cobb, and a pair of errors to make the final 13-1.
Vinson had three hits to lead the offense, while Alligood, Rozier and Cobb had two apiece. Gay also had a hit.
Crisp Academy blew the Lady Crusaders out in Dublin a couple of weeks ago, but Trinity was able to return the favor over three innings in Cordele Thursday.
Gay, who had a huge game offensively, got the scoring started in the top of the first with a two run double.
After Crisp cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning, Trinity went back to work again in the second.
Alligood drove home a run with a single to make it 3-1. Three more runs would score on a pair of bases loaded walks and a groundout to make it 6-1.
The Crusaders would load the bases in the third on an error, a single and a walk. Gay would then come to the plate and blast a grand slam to left to make it 10-1. They would tack on one more on an error to make it 11-1.
Crisp got a two-run homer of its own in the the home half of the third to make it 11-3, before the game was called due to rain.
Gay had three hits and six RBIs to lead the offense. Rozier had a pair of hits, while Alligood and Gillis also hit safely.
