HEADS UP, OVER THERE: Jakob Sahli was just checking to make sure Trinity teammates and coaches on the top step were still awake as he belted this screaming line drive toward the dugout during Tuesday’s second inning. The foul ball nearly picked off assistant coach Shannon Canady, but he saw it coming just in time to duck out of the way/CLAY REYNOLDS

Helton would plate another run with a sac fly and another Windsor error made it 8-0. Lee capped the scoring with an RBI double to make it 9-0.

Windsor got a leadoff single in the second, but Grooms recovered with a couple of quick outs. A Crusader error would extend the inning and bring up Avery Moore, who blasted a three-run homer to left to make the score 9-3.

Trinity would add five more in the second. Run-scoring hits from Helton, Evans and Lee accounted for three. A wild pitch and a balk pushed across two more to make it 14-3. Helton would drive in his third of the game in the third with a groundout to make it 15-3.

The Crusader bench then got involved in the fourth as Andrew Helton got his first varsity hit to drive home a run. Jon Ray later drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 17-3.

GETTING SOME ACTION: Freshman Andrew Helton got his first career hit, and an out in the field on this routine groundout, as one in a wave of several young Crusaders entering the game in Tuesday’s latter innings/CLAY REYNOLDS

After collecting just eight hits in the previous two games, Trinity pounded out 10, drew 11 walks and took advantage of seven Knight errors in the contest.

Lee, Evans and Shepherd had two hits each to lead the way.  Mascaro, Grooms and the Helton brothers also hit safely.

Grooms gave up the only two hits for the pitching staff but didn’t allow an earned run in his two innings. He struck out five.

TWO-INNING GEM: With Tuesday’s mountain of run support, Trinity was able to go to the ‘pen fairly early, but a strong start for Kolbi Grooms on the hill included five strikeouts, just two Windsor hits and no earned runs over a couple innings of action/CLAY REYNOLDS

Nathan Sumner struck out four in his two innings of action and Jakob Sahli stuck out the side in the fifth.  The trio also didn’t walk a batter in the contest.

Trinity (5-2, 0-2 region) will be back in action Thursday against Piedmont.
