WRIGHTSVILLE – Senior night meant another one-sided win like these seniors have enjoyed all year.

Continuing JoCo defensive success, the Panthers were scoreless until the fourth quarter.

The Trojans have given up only 15 points in first quarters this year, and no team has scored against them in the second.

Head coach Don Norton said he is glad to be undefeated, and was pleased that his first-team players maintained a shutout until late in the game.

“I thought we came out with the right mindset, played hard,” he said. “We’re able to execute some things and get a win and be, you know, sitting at the top next week.”

The Trojans had 327 yards of offense, to 114 by the Panthers, and 294 in rushing against 89.

The fact that both teams were equal with nine first downs can be attributed to the fact that the Trojans scored on big plays.

Glascock fumbled on the second play of the game, and Jacaden Webb recovered on JoCo’s 42. Two plays later Jeremiah Scott ran for a 37-yard touchdown. The kick failed and the Trojans were up 7-0.

Later in the quarter, Webb recovered a Glascock fumble. Nathan Turberville had a 9-yard pass to Daezon Devero on the next play. Scott ran for a 32-yard touchdown. With Will Peeples’ kick, it was 13-0 with 4:15 left in the first.

Tayshawn Norris had a 56-yard punt return, and a couple of plays later, Turberville connected with Devero on a 9-yard touchdown pass. Peeples kicked and the score was 20-0 with 47 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

On the next Panther possession, Webb recovered a fumble and ran it  back 57 yards for a touchdown. With Peeples’ kick, the Trojans were up 27-0.

With 9:42 in the half, Scott returned a punt 57 yards for a touchdown. After Peeples’ PAT, the score was 34-0.

Before the half was out, JoCo had a six-play, 56-yard drive.

Turberville hit Devero on a 13-yard touchdown pass. The kick failed, but the Trojans were up 40-0 at halftime.

Jeremiah Taylor had a 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the third. The kick failed and the Trojans led 46-0.

Chance Wombles ran for a 35-yard touchdown with 9:45 in the game to make the score 52-0. The kick was blocked.

Glascock had a 52-yard drive and scored on a 25-yard pass with 1:15 in the game. With the kick, the score was 52-7.

Jeremiah Scott led Johnson County in rushing with two runs for 69 yards. Jeremiah Taylor had two for 65. Jamie Wadley had three for 47.

Devero had four receptions for 33 yards. Turberville was 4-for-7 passing with 33 yards.

Kristopher Siren had five tackles with two assists. Dewayne Abrams had four with three. Ziion Wesley had five with one.

Wesley appreciated being with his team and winning on senior night, and having a good night with his team.

“It’s just something you’ll never forget,” he said.

This senior class, with one more win, stands to be the first group of seniors to have won a region championship every year of high school.

Tayshawn Norris praised his fellow seniors.

“This is a good group of seniors to be around,” he said. “They are all smart and talented. A good group of people to look up to.”

The Trojans (9-0) will be at home against Georgia Military College Prep School next week.
