Georgia Disaster Recovery Centers to close on Sundays

Effective Sunday, Dec. 8, all Disaster Recovery Centers in Georgia will be closed on Sundays.
Disaster Recovery Centers are open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday, until further notice. Survivors may visit any open recovery center to get one-on-one help applying for federal assistance, receive updates on their applications and learn about the appeals process.
In Laurens County, the center, which is located inside the old West Laurens Middle School Gymnasium, has a sign declaring it as a “FEMA – State Disaster Recovery Center” hanging on the outside of the building. FEMA is in Laurens County to provide assistance from Hurricane Helene that hit the area on Sept. 27 leaving behind a lot of damage.
FEMA responds when a disaster happens. When things are out of the state’s power and scope, FEMA is there to aid and lift the burden off of the state, said James Wood, FEMA media relations specialist.
