With the longer, warmer days of spring upon us, there’s no better way to spruce up around the house, or even an apartment patio, than by adding a splash of color with plants and flowers. One local couple is working to supply area gardeners, whether those with veteran green thumbs or inexperienced planters, with the best plants for their flower beds or pots.
Marking a decade of business this year, Triple-T Nursery in Cadwell has a plant for everyone.
“Lantana is a popular choice,” said Denise Taylor, who founded Triple-T Nursery with her husband, Colby, in 2014. “It takes the heat, and it blooms until it frosts, which around here is until November.”
Perennial flowers, hanging baskets and succulents are other popular items at the nursery, situated behind the couple’s home. Triple-T Nursery offers everything from fruit trees and shrubs to annuals and cacti.
The plants are potted and cared for with the help of Colby’s mother, Linda Taylor, who also lives on the property. Triple-T Nursery uses a proprietary potting mix, made on site.
The business began as a booth at the Market on Madison. Ever the fan of flowers, the Taylors, teachers by trade, were looking for something to do after retiring from the Laurens County School System.
“We came up with the idea just as something to do,” Colby said, who had worked in the school district’s green houses.
The COVID pandemic forced the couple to rethink their business. That is when they transitioned from the Market on Madison to their own property. A portion of their backyard, with areas of shade and full sun, seemed well suited for staging various plants. The addition of a free-of-charge frame for a hoop greenhouse made it certain that everything was meant to be.
“It’s been a God thing,” Colby said. “We’re happy where we’re at. The business is doing well.”
Triple-T Nursery is at 724 Whittle Road in Cadwell and is open Thursday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
