BASEBALL: Trinity gets back in win column to start new region series at Windsor

After blowing a couple of leads to Gatewood last week, the Trinity Crusaders looked to get back on the winning track on Tuesday against Windsor. 

The Crusaders were able to do just that as they got a great pitching performance and took advantage of some Knight miscues to come away with a solid 8-2 win.

Trinity would get on the board in the top of the first. Jakob Sahli singled to lead off the contest and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make the score 1-0.

The Crusaders would tack on to the lead in the third. 

Asher Evans was hit with a pitch with one out, and Brayden Underwood would follow with a walk. After a second out was recorded, Tayt Evans ripped a hard grounder to short. The ball couldn’t be fielded cleanly, leading to a two-base error and two runs to make the score 3-0. 

Kolbi Grooms came up next and also reached on an error by the shortstop to push the advantage to 4-0.

Blake Sims would single to lead off the fourth for Trinity and Sahli would follow with a one out single. Underwood later drove them both home with a two-out hit make the score 6-0.

The Crusaders would get another run in the fifth when they loaded the bases with two outs on two errors and a walk.  Andrew Helton came home on a wild pitch to make the score 7-0.

Windsor got on the board in the sixth with a pair of unearned runs to cut the Crusader advantage to 7-2.

In the seventh, Helton walked and Sims would be hit by a pitch to put two on with nobody out. After Alston Bryan bunted them both over, Sahli would come through with a sac fly for the final run to make it 8-2.

Sahli and Underwood led the offense with two hits each. Helton and Sims also had hits for Trinity.

Grooms needed just 59 pitches to earn the complete-game victory, as he allowed just two hits and no earned runs. He walked one and struck out four.

Trinity will return to action Friday as it rematches with Windsor, this time in Dublin.
