SOFTBALL: Trinity bounces back from Edmund Burke loss with win at Twiggs Academy
The Crusaders split a pair of road games, dropping one Friday against the Spartans but rebounding for a win Tuesday vs. the Trojans.
The Trinity softball team split a pair of road games over the last week as they fell to Edmund Burke 16-4 last Friday, but rebounded to defeat Twiggs Academy on Tuesday.
The Crusaders returned to region action Thursday at Robert Toombs.
Friday’s game started out with Trinity grabbing an early 1-0 lead thanks to three EBA errors and a walk. Errors would be a common theme in the contest.
The home team would respond with a nine spot in the bottom of the frame on three hits, five walks and two costly Lady Crusader errors. Seven of the runs scored with two outs.
The Lady Spartans would tack on five more in the second on just two hits thanks to three more Trinity errors, and ran it to 15-1 with a run in the third.
The Lady Crusaders tried to cut into the deficit in the fourth. A walk, an error and a fielders choice would make the score 15-2. Abby Kilpatrick would single to make the score 15-3 and another in scored on a wild pitch to make it 15-4.
They would get no closer as EBA would get three singles and a walk in the bottom of the inning to end the game via the run rule at 16-4.
Kilpatrick and Brinley Vinson had the only two Trinity hits in the game.
The Twiggs game started out as a pitchers duel but Trinity broke the game open with a six run sixth and held on for the 8-7 win.
Twiggs Academy scored first in the bottom of the first on a single and an error to make it 1-0.
Chloe Rozier would reach on a three base error in the top of the second and score on a sacrifice fly to tie it a 1-1.
That would remain the score until the fifth when the Lady Trojans would regain the lead with three straight two out hits to go ahead 3-1.
Trinity would finally get their offense going in the sixth. MG Alligood led off the inning with a walk. Liza Gay, Rozier, and Reece Cobb would all three single to make the score 3-2.
After a walk knotted the score at 3-3, Ella Kendrick laced a two run double to make the score 5-3.
An RBI groundout by Vinson would push the lead to 6-3, and Abby Gillis would single in another run to make it 7-3.
Rozier would lead off the seventh with another hit and promptly steal second base. After moving up to third on a wild pitch, she would score on a Cobb bunt single to make it 8-3.
That would end up being a huge run as Twiggs would score four times in the bottom of the inning on two hits and three Trinity errors, but the Lady Crusaders would hang on for the 8-7 win.
Vinson, Rozier, Cobb, and Kendrick all had two hits each to lead the offense. Gillis and Gay also hit safely.
