Technology upgrades coming to Laurens County probate/magistrate courtroom

County Commission agrees to spend up to $50,000 for equipment to record hearings.

Laurens County’s probate and magistrate courts will get an equipment upgrade to their shared courtroom.

The County Commission voted Tuesday to spend up to $50,000 on the new technology. The magistrate and probate judges hold court in a shared room on the first floor of the county courthouse.

“The main need is recording the hearings that they have,” County Attorney Brad Childers told the commissioners. “For $50,000 we should be able to meet their needs.”

The commission had already authorized another $140,000 on upgrades to Superior Court courtrooms, and County Administrator Bryan Rogers said the county could save by having the company, S&L Integrated Systems, also do the probate-magistrate courtroom while here.

Based in Thomasville, S&L provides integrated audio, video, lighting and control systems for businesses, schools, government, hospitals, churches and theaters.

Both courthouse projects will be funded by the special purpose local option sales tax.
