A statewide gathering of theater personnel from all over the state converged in Dublin last week as Georgia Presenters held its annual summer retreat in our town.

This group, which is managed by the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and includes our own Theatre Dublin, was in town from July 8 through July 10. According to Leigh Burns, director of community partnerships at Fox Theatre, the goal of their retreat is to bring the presenters together and help them with professional development. They were able to see some educational performances that they may want to bring to their community.

Besides that, they were in sessions throughout Wednesday and had an opportunity to meet with members of Dublin’s Downtown Development Authority. The next day, they were treated to a song from the musical “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory” before hearing three numbers from the Dublin Community Theatre’s upcoming production of “Guys and Dolls” (running July 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. and 19 and 20 at 2 p.m. – tickets available at purplepass/guys).

And while they enjoyed these performances, as well as the opportunity to network, they were also able to see the good things we have to offer downtown.

“We felt Dublin was a great location because not only is the theater doing a great job, but the downtown is so wonderful and there is all of the amenities that we need,” said Burns. “A lot of downtowns don’t have their theaters anymore You are so lucky you have a theater, and you can tell it’s a vital part of your downtown.”

All of this highlights the importance of  Theatre Dublin and all that happens there to bring us quality entertainment not only from actors and actresses from our town and the surrounding area from out of state but also from out of state. We are happy the Georgia Presenters had a good retreat here and hope they will return to see what we have to offer.
