Bleckley boy dies after falling off the back of moving car

A 7-year-old boy died after falling off the back of a truck Friday night in Bleckley County, according to authorities. 

The Georgia State Patrol said Mitchell Holiday was standing on the back bumper of a white Ford Expedition that his grandfather was driving. Holiday’s grandfather did not know the boy was on the bumper of the SUV and started driving. 

After a short distance traveling east on Porter Road, Holiday fell off the bumper. 

The Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office, Cochran Police Department, Cochran Fire Department and Heartland EMS arrived at the scene at around 6:20 p.m. The Georgia State Patrol was called to respond and investigate, which is routine in crashes such as this one.

The State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the accident.

The sheriff’s office said they do not believe any charges will be filed as of Saturday morning.

Holiday’s school made a post on Facebook announcing his death and offering support to students and families. 

“We send our deepest condolences to the family and all who knew this beautiful child,” the post reads. “We will remember his bright spirit, sweet nature, and incredible work ethic. He will always be close to our hearts.”

School counselors are available for students or staff members who need assistance, and families are encouraged to reach out to the school if their child needs someone to talk to.

“In times like these, it’s essential to come together and support one another,” the school said.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was started by Alexius Woodfaulk, the boy’s aunt, for funeral expenses. As of Tuesday morning, it has raised $4,017 out of its $5,000 goal. Visit bit.ly/mitchell-holiday to see the fundraiser page.
