Over half Dublin’s seven hits were triples, and five were for extra bases, in a rout of Southwest Macon Thursday that got the Irish their first region win.
A combined one-hitter for freshman pitchers Breanna Daniel and El Stubbs kept the Patriots out of the shootout, which ended after four innings with a score of 17-4.
Amari Williams led Dublin’s big day at the plate with a double, a triple and two runs batted in on her 2-for-3 line.
Daniel, TeQuesa Cannon, Breanna Ward, Emily Maddox and Derricka Lewis also added a hit and at least one RBI each (the final three also with triples).
The Irish put a big number on the board in a hurry, exploding for eight runs in the first inning. They’d slowly add on in the second and third, as Southwest scored one in the bottom half of each inning. But another big Dublin outburst for six runs in the fourth would create a 12-plus run margin for the Irish that sealed the game, despite one more Patriot run in the bottom of the fourth.
Daniel worked the game’s first three innings, giving up the only Southwest hit and two earned runs. She walked six and struck out five. Stubbs gave up one unearned run in the final inning, with two walks and three strikeouts.
Dublin (2-2, 1-1 region 2-High A) returns to action on Tuesday at home against Washington County.
