Incumbent Brenda Chain said she looks forward to “finishing all the work I want to do in Laurens County” after defeating challenger Carolyn McCune in Tuesday’s Democratic primary to win a third term on the Laurens County Board of Commissioners.

Chain faces no Republican opposition in November. On Tuesday, she garnered 490 votes – or 55 percent – to McCune’s 403.

“I always knew I was the better candidate because of my experience,” Chain said Tuesday night as votes were tallied at the county courthouse annex. “I’m glad the people of District 1 saw the job I’m doing as a job well done.”

Fellow Commissioners Jimmy Rogers and Kevin Tanner, who both ran unopposed, joined her on election night as results came in.

In Dudley, Jenny Taylor won an at-large seat on Dudley City Council. Taylor claimed 104 votes (68 percent) to Jay Powell’s 48 (32 percent).

“I am delighted and humbled that the people of Dudley chose me to represent them,” Taylor said. “Thank you to all those who supported me. I am looking forward to serving this community that I love so dearly.”
