DLCRA 12U all-stars win DYB state championship

An unbeaten four-game run at Southern Pines last week clinched the Dublin-Laurens 12U baseball all-stars the championship of the Diamond Youth Baseball state tournament.

It was a DYB dub, in the D-U-B, for the Dublin-Laurens 12U baseball all-stars to close out the Diamond Youth (formerly Dixie Youth) Baseball state tournament Saturday at Southern Pines.

The team, representing the DLCRA in its home complex, defeated Troup National 2-0 in the finals to complete an unbeaten four-game run in the event and clinch the state championship.

Three leading up to Saturday’s title matchup were each wins, including a couple by double digits that bookended the 4-1 victory a first go-round with Troup Friday night, when pitcher Colt Montgomery dominated with 10 strikeouts in six innings on the hill.

DLCRA opened with an 11-1 rout of Washington County, and advanced to the championship game earlier Saturday by run-ruling Columbia County, 12-1.

Left-hander Canon Mallette delivered another shutdown performance against Troup in the clinching game Saturday afternoon, going all six innings while giving up only two hits and striking out eight.
