A Laurens County Sheriff’s deputy is being investigated after fellow deputies responded to a domestic situation last weekend.

According to LCSO Maj. Alan Baggett, Deputy Justin Padgett was charged with battery under domestic violence and cruelty to children in the third degree, which mean a child under 18 years old witnessed the event.  Both are misdemeanors.

Deputies responded to a domestic call around 3 a.m. Sunday, May 3. Padgett was arrested and transported him to the sheriff’s office.

“He bonded out the next day and was immediately put on administrative leave with an internal affairs investigation,” said Maj. Alan Baggett. “Right now he is suspended pending the investigation.”

This case was also been turned over to Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as of Monday, Baggett added.
