A driver’s medical condition is believed to have led to a three-vehicle crash involving a Washington County school bus earlier this week that left traffic blocked on the Oconee River Bridge in Dublin.
The Georgia State Patrol responded to the wreck on East Jackson Street at 12:52 p.m. Wednesday. According to the GSP, a gold 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by John Lucas of East Dublin, was traveling west on East Jackson Street when it entered the eastbound lane of traffic.
The Chevrolet sideswiped a red 2011 Ford Escape, driven by Margaret Garner of Dublin, on its driver’s side and then collided head-on with a Washington County bus – loaded with children on a field trip – driven by Willie
Lee Gardner of Sandersville.
None of the children were reported injured in the crash.
Lucas was transported to Fairview Park Hospital. EMS personnel said there was evidence to suggest that he had suffered a “cardiac event” as the crash happened.
The eastbound lanes of East Jackson Street were closed for approximately two hours.
