City of Dublin breaks out the fun with water day

The city of Dublin brought water and fun together at Stubbs Park last Friday.

Dublin marketing and communications specialist Renia Cook said City Manager Josh Powell wanted to have something fun for the community. Because the city’s parks and recreation department is growing with things being added to its program each year, the decision was made to hold a water day again.

“We are just enjoying the summertime,” Cook said. “We always want to do this right before school starts. We want everybody to know who our gas department employees are, our police officers and our firefighters are. In fact, we’ve had some of them go down the slip-and-slide a few minutes ago.”

Throughout the park, children had plenty of options to have fun. There were water slides, cornhole, pictures to color and face painting. The city’s departments were over different parts of the park. 

The gas department oversaw the hot dogs and chips, and Coca Cola had a tent providing drinks. Meanwhile, Visit Dublin GA not only had bubbles floating through the air but also provided information about upcoming events in the community. The city’s engineering department encouraged participants to color sheets and games.

The Dublin Police Department gave out ice cream, while the fire department handed out educational information and provided the water for the slip-and-slide. The Dublin Youth Council provided face painting and helped with the water slides and water stations.

City Councilman Brandon Chain organized a DJ to provide music for the event, while churches involved in June’s Freedom Night handed out the food and had a prayer booth.

The city would like to get more people, businesses or organizations involved in future events. 

“If people wish they could have been a part of this, and get on our master list, they can call her,” Cook said. “We want community members and non-profits to participate, but it’s really a time for our city departments to come out and hang out,” Cook said. “We are celebrating summer right before school starts again.”

As a Dublin Fire Department truck sprayed water from above, children, adults and even a few firefighters slid down a hill in one of the activities during the second annual city of Dublin Water Day.
