East Laurens’ Jackson sweeps state titles in shot put, discus; Laurens County’s GHSA track results

After medaling bronze in one of the two at state a year ago, the Falcons’ senior swept gold in both events as he closed out his decorated athletic career in Athens.

After medaling in one event and finishing top 15 in the other last spring, East Laurens High School’s Caleb Jackson went out on top earlier this week as he concluded his senior track and field season by capturing gold in both the discus and shot put.

His top fling of 167-7 in the first beat out his next competitor by a good bit, while a heave of 50-0.75 in the latter left a margin of less than an inch between him and runner-up C.J. Monroe of Vidalia. But both results were good to break existing school records as Jackson, a Valdosta State football signee, concluded his decorated athletic career on the top of two podiums at the GHSA track and field state championships in Athens.
