FanCON showcases combat fighting
Festival goers witness combat demonstrations during the Laurens County Library’s fourth FanCON.
When it was announced that a combat demo was about to begin, many wearing their favorite science fiction or fantasy adventure shirts or costumes stepped outside the back of the library to see what it was all about.
It did not disappoint when members of the Society for Creative Anachronism fought near the back patio of the Laurens County Library as part of the 2024 Fantastic Futures Dublin FanCON last Saturday.
“We are so excited that Society for Creative Anachronism could do the combat demo,” said Cristina Trotter, head of reference and the Heritage Center. “They offered to do it last year but it did not work out because of the rainy weather. We are very thankful for the good weather.”
Which is what allowed the group to step outside and put on the demo. The group explained what combat demo was before facing off against each other. Once a kill shot was determined, the men would bow and acknowledge their defeat.
