After the two teams exchanged punts on their first two drives, the Trinity defense made the first big play of the game. Windsor quarterback Dawson Sims would scramble for a few yards, but Trinity forced a fumble and Bryson Barrs scooped it up and raced 43 yards for a touchdown to put the visitors up 7-0.

The defense got another takeaway on the next possession with an Asher Evans interception, but couldn’t get anything going. However, a Wade Register punt would pin Windsor deep in their own territory.

That would prove to be big, as the Trinity defense got a stop and a short punt set them up at the Windsor 37 yard line. A few plays later, Ben Castro-Poveda would connect with Ben Helton on an 18-yard scoring strike to make the score 14-0 early in the second quarter.

Following another Knights punt, Register extended the lead to 17-0 with a 46-yard field goal.

MAKING LIGHT WORK: Trinity quarterback Ben Castro-Poveda eludes a Windsor tackler on a first-half run. The senior, with 54 total yards and a  passing touchdown, was the top overall gainer for the Crusaders on a night when plays by their  defense and special teams took most of the load off the offense/JASON VORHEES, The Macon Melody

The next Windsor possession would end in another poor punt, setting Trinity up with prime field position. Register scored on a six-yard run. The two-point conversion failed, but the score was 23-0.

The defense came up with another fumble recovery on the next Knight possession and took over at the 25. Trinity needed just two plays to score again. This time, Jakob Sahli would score on a five-yard run to push the lead to 30-0.

The Knights would finally get on board on their next possession, as Jay Singleton took a handoff and raced 76 yards to make the score 30-6.

The momentum was short-lived. Cruz Giles took the ensuing kickoff, made a few moves, and went 70 yards for a Crusader score to make it 37-6 with less than two minutes left in the half.

Trinity would get the ball back one last time before intermission, and got another long Register field goal, this time from 42 yards, to make it 40-6 at the half.

The Crusaders scored 33 points in the second quarter.

VICTORY LANE: Trinity head coach Bruce Lane and staff give out high fives as Crusaders return to the sideline after a  first-half score. Friday’s win, a second-straight, puts Trinity  (3-2 overall) above .500 for the first time under its new coach/JASON VORHEES, The Macon Melody

Register would add the only Trinity points of the second half with another 42-yard field goal midway through the third quarter to make it 43-6

Windsor got a touchdown pass from Sims to Chris Lamar late in the fourth quarter to make the final score 43-14.

Due to the short fields and the running clock in the second half, Trinity’s offense didn’t compile impressive stats. Castro-Poveda finished just 3-of-9 for 34 yards and a score. Register had 30 yards on eight carries, and Helton caught two passes for 21 yards.

Singleton led the Knights with 170 yards on 13 attempts.

The Crusaders (3-2 overall) will return home this Friday for a matchup with Thomas Jefferson Academy, looking for their first home win.
