Leadership transition continues around Wilkinson County School District

There are some fresh faces around the Wilkinson County School District’s central office, and there’s also a fresh face leading the high school.

Dr. Jamie Paulk recently was introduced as the new principal at Wilkinson County High School. Paulk, a Baxley native, comes over from the Dublin City School District, where he most recently served as a School Improvement Specialist. Paulk also was the principal at Dublin High School between June 2021 and early 2023.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sylvia Rose-Brown recently was hired for the district’s brand-new Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum Instruction. Rose-Brown recently worked for the Georgia Department of Education’s Office of School and District Improvement.

Rose-Brown’s hire means that the WCSD now has two assistant/deputy superintendents on its staff instead of one. Rose-Brown will work alongside Dr. Virginia Rozier, the district’s longtime assistant superintendent.

The biggest change, of course, was when Dr. Angela James took over for Aaron Geter as WCSD Superintendent earlier this summer. She last week presided over her first School Board meeting. James retired from the WCSD in 2020 before taking a job with the Georgia Department of Education. James was the principal at Wilkinson County Middle School at the time of her retirement in 2020.

Geter, meanwhile, signed off on June 11 after 15 years on the job. Geter was first hired as principal at Wilkinson County Middle in 1998 before being promoted to Superintendent in early 2009.
