The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office say they received a BOLO from the Treutlen County Sheriff’s Office Saturday night for a vehicle they believed was involved in a prison drop.

Shortly after, the vehicle was seen driving along I-16 in Twiggs County.

Officials say they initiated a pursuit that continued once the driver left the interstate at Exit 24, until he crashed on Highway 96 near Academy Drive.

After crashing, the driver, later identified as Mathis, fled on foot.

A car, who was seen entering the area while police were there searching for Mathis, was stopped by law enforcement. The driver, identified as Barkley, was questioned and admitted to being there to pick up Mathis.

Law enforcement also found a package and drone in Barkley’s car that they believe were intended for a prison drop.

Mathis was eventually tracked by K-9, and both men were placed under arrest.
