East Dublin woman killed in two-vehicle wreck after another driver ran the red light in front of city hall Wednesday.

A 67-year-old East Dublin died after the driver in another vehicle ran the red light at the intersection of North Church Street at Bellevue Avenue Wednesday morning.

Laurens County Coroner Richard Stanley pronounced Mary Francis  Fountain Hobbs at 8:33 a.m. Wednesday, May 20 in the emergency room at Fairview Park Hospital. Cause of death was multiple blunt trauma from a motor vehicle accident. 

According to Dublin Police Chief Keith Moon, the wreck occurred around 8:05 a.m. Hobbs was traveling south on North Church Street and was stopped at the traffic signal waiting for the light to change. When the traffic light turned green, Hobbs proceeded to cross over onto South Church Street when she was hit in the intersection on the driver’s side by another driver traveling westbound on Bellevue.

During the investigation, which is currently ongoing, it was determined that the driver of the westbound vehicle ran the red light. This driver, whose name was not released until officials know if there will be criminal charges filed, was not transported for medical treatment.

“(Hobbs’) next of kin were notified and remain in our thoughts during their time of loss,” Moon said. 

According to a Stanley Funeral Home announcement, Hobbs’ service will held in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22. Family and friends will have a visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
