HIGHLIGHT REEL: West Laurens football hosts padded camp

West Laurens hosted a padded camp Wednesday in one of its final hurrahs of summer training.

West Laurens hosted a padded camp last Wednesday morning in one of its final hurrahs of summer training before the official leadup to fall practices begins this week.

The Raiders, with ACE Charter, Mary Persons and Rutland as their guests at the SHU, took the field in partial gear for some controlled scrimmage reps featuring their full 11 on offense and defense.

Local squads are starting to put the pieces together as they continue the countdown to the 2024 season, kicking off for most Aug. 16, with preseason exhibitions as soon as Aug. 2.

If there’s anything Janice enjoys more than photography, it’s frequenting Laurens County’s many social and sporting events. She’s been doing both for more than 10 years as a Courier Herald contributor, tasked with capturing the many moments that make life in our community special. The Dudley resident regularly documents local athletic contests and holiday festivities, while always keeping an eye out for unexpected photo opportunities along the way. During summertime, you can usually catch her near the home-plate backstops at Dudley Little League ballfields enjoying a Sno Biz or cinnamon pretzel while shooting the youth baseball and softball action.
